At Contemporary Istanbul, Johnny Depp unveiled his first sculpture: The Bunnyman, a bronze figure standing roughly two metres tall. Half rabbit, half human, the character began as a figure from a recurring childhood dream, a presence at once friend and warning, which Depp later found echoed in a drawing by his young son Jack. It has since appeared across his paintings, drawings and prints.
Presented in collaboration with the Sigg Art Foundation, the work was cast in lost-wax bronze at the Fonderia Artistica Battaglia in Milan, a technique chosen to preserve every fingerprint and tool mark left in the original. After its debut indoors under dramatic lighting in Shanghai, it was installed outdoors beside the Golden Horn at the fair’s new home in the historic Tersane shipyard, where the sea light brought out its surface in a very different way.
